US intelligence intercepts communications between Syrian military and chemical experts

US intelligence intercepts communications between Syrian military and chemical experts

A senior US official confirms that the US military and intelligence community has intercepted communications featuring Syrian military and chemical experts talking about preparations for the sarin attack that took place in Idlib last week.
The intercepts were part of an immediate review of all intelligence in the hours after the attack to confirm responsibility for the use of chemical weapons in an attack in northwestern Syria, which killed at least 70 people.
US officials have said that there is "no doubt" that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is responsible for the attack. The US did not know prior to the attack it was going to happen, the official emphasized.

So far there are no intelligence intercepts that have been found directly confirming that Russian military or intelligence officials communicated about the attack. The official said the likelihood is the Russians are more careful in their communications to avoid being intercepted.

The Russian and Syrian governments have so far both denied involvement in the chemical attack.

Fight against ISIS: US military drops “mother of all bombs” in Afghanistan

A few hours ago, the US military dropped America's most powerful non-nuclear bomb on ISIS targets in Afghanistan and it's the first time this type of weapon has been used in battle.

According to Pentagon spokesman Adam Stump, a GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), nicknamed the "mother of all bombs," was dropped at 7:32 pm local time.
A MOAB is a 21,600-pound, GPS-guided munition. The bomb was dropped by an MC-130 aircraft, stationed in Afghanistan and operated by Air Force Special Operations Command.

Officials said the target was an ISIS cave and tunnel complex and personnel in the Achin district of the Nangarhar province.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said, "the United States takes the fight against ISIS very seriously and in order to defeat the group we must deny them operational space, which we did. The strike "targeted a system of tunnels and cave that ISIS fighters use to move around freely."
